MATCH NOTES
Scott Hunter and Ryan Hunter were new caps for Canada. From the game v France Stade Francais’s Mike James, Clermont Auvernge’s Jamie Cudmore, and Doncaster’s John Cannon all returned to professional duties with their clubs in France and England.

Playing in sleet and snow, Canada led 20-8 at one stage but had to concede to a very heavy Romanian pack. Romania scored in the 79th minute with the conversion winning the game.
